THE JERUSALEM PROGRAM
THE JERUSALEM PROGRAM IS THE OFFICIAL PLATFORM OF THE WORLD ZIONIST ORGANIZATION AND THE ZIONIST MOVEMENT
Zionism, the national liberation movement of the Jewish people, brought about the establishment of the State of Israel and views a Jewish, Zionist, democratic, and secure State of Israel to be the expression of the common responsibility of the Jewish people for its continuity and future.
The foundations of Zionism are:
- The unity of the Jewish people, its bond to its historic homeland Eretz Yisrael, and the centrality of the State of Israel and Jerusalem, its capital, in the life of the nation.
 - Aliyah to Israel from all countries and the effective integration of all immigrants into Israeli society.
 - Strengthening Israel as a Jewish, Zionist, and democratic state and shaping it as an exemplary society with a unique moral and spiritual character, marked by mutual respect for the multi-faceted Jewish people, rooted in the vision of the prophets, striving for peace and contributing to the betterment of the world.
 - Ensuring the future and the distinctiveness of the Jewish people by furthering Jewish, Hebrew, and Zionist education, fostering spiritual and cultural values, and teaching Hebrew as the national language.
 - Nurturing mutual Jewish responsibility, defending the rights of Jews as individuals and as a nation, representing the national Zionist interests of the Jewish people, and struggling against all manifestations of anti-Semitism.
 - Settling the country as an expression of practical Zionism.

The official page of the Jerusalem Programme my be found here on the WZO website.
					Who's on the slate?
For the first time in anyone’s memory, Canada has held an election for its delegates to the Zionist Congress. This is a big deal.
The 39th Zionist Congress will take place in Jerusalem in October with over 700 delegates from around the world expected to attend. Twenty of those delegates will be from Canada.
The election in Canada took place between June 5 and 15, and was open to each Jewish Canadian who is at least 18, supports the Jerusalem Program of the World Zionist Organization and has not previously voted.
When you vote, you vote for a slate of delegates and the Canadian spots will be allocated proportionally between the slates, and within in accordance with an order determined within each slate. The election is administered by the Canadian Zionist Federation which requires each slate to have at least 25% of its candidates be between ages 18 and 35 and at least 40% of its candidates be women.
The Zionist Congress is the Parliament of the Jewish People, and continues a proud tradition started by Theodor Herzl when he convened the first Congress in Basel in 1897. Slate voting for delegates is part of this proud tradition.
This is the Labour party slate for the election of delegates from the Land of Israel for the 18th Congress that was held in Prague in 1933. This slate includes the following luminaries from the early days of Israel’s statehood with the numerical reference being his or her position on the slate:
1. David Ben Gurion. Israel’s First Prime Minister.
4. Moshe Shertok (later Sharett). Second Prime Minister.
7. Yitzhak Ben Zvi. Israel’s Second President.
9. Zalman Robishov (later Shazar). Third President.
17. Levi Shkolnick (later Eshkol). Third Prime Minister.
27. Golda Meyerson (later Meir). Fourth Prime Minister.
Before the election period expires at 11.59 pm (Pacific time) on June 15 please be sure to cast your vote.
We have a chance to select the Canadian Zionist luminaries that will represent us at the Congress this year.
