CJPAC

Canadian Jewish Political Action Committee works on lobbying, getting volunteers involved in ridings during elections, encourages joining a political party and being generally politically involved. CJPAC offers speakers and workshops.

YOUTH PROGRAMMING:

Encourage your youth to experience Israel through United Synagogue Youth (USY) Pilgrimage programmes, Ramah Seminar, NATIV Year in Israel, etc. Invite your youth to sit on your Israel Affairs committee. Offer your university-aged members workshops on how to handle pro-Arab and anti-Israel propaganda on campus. Don't forget to ask your youth to address your congregation when they return from a trip to Israel.

ISRAEL TRIPS:

Many synagogues offer trips to Israel. Smaller shuls may consider joining with other shuls or organizations. This October, Conservative & Reform Movements partnered with UIA Federation's mission. One of the 9 days of the mission was spent visiting four Masorti communities greatly affected by the war. Visits help the economy, boost morale of Israelis, educate and spiritually uplift the visitor and express solidarity with the country and people. Please ensure that Masorti and United Synagogue institutions and communities are part of your itinerary.

SCHOLARSHIPS & SUBSIDIES

Many synagogues have special segregated funds to be used to subsidize members travelling or studying in Israel. MERCAZ-Canada and United Synagogue Youth offer scholarships for young people attending Conservative sponsored programmes in Israel.

FUNDRAISING FOR ISRAEL

Encourage your congregation to support Israeli fundraising organizations, especially your local UJA/UIA Federation, Israel Bonds and JNF. Don't forget to include the Canadian Foundation for Masorti Judaism, which supports our own Masorti/ Conservative Movement in Israel.

YOM HA'ATZMAUT

Plan Yom Haatzmaut with a speaker or entertainment. Israeli musical groups are often in North America.

PURCHASE ISRAELI PRODUCTS

The Israeli economy has been devastated by Palestinian terrorism and the various anti-Israel economic actions (divestment) taken around the world. Help by purchasing products made in Israel at your synagogue gift shop, product fairs, stores or on-line.

GENERAL PROGRAMMES

Consider speakers, seminars, debates & advocacy skills on a regular basis, in your synagogue. Dedicate at least one Shabbat a year to programming about Masorti in Israel.

ISRAEL COMMISSION

This USCJ international committee will work to revitalize the Israel Affairs committees, to disseminate information on different programmes on Israel and facilitate the planning of trips to Israel within our Conservative congregations.
